The Rise of Aesthetic 3D Printing in Design
Share
3D printing is often seen as a tool for engineers and architects, used primarily for functional and industrial purposes. However, my journey into 3D printing started at university when I realised there was an untapped potential – a niche within a niche. While the technology was being used for prototyping and manufacturing, I saw an opportunity to bring 3D printing into the world of design, with a focus on aesthetics.
During my time studying product design, I became fascinated by how 3D printers worked. They could bring digital designs to life with incredible precision, but most of the products being made weren’t particularly beautiful. They were functional, yes, but I wondered – what if we could use 3D printing to create aesthetically pleasing items for the home, weddings, or gifts?
That curiosity sparked extensive research into different brands of 3D printers, materials, and the sustainability of the entire process. One thing became clear: 3D printing could be a highly sustainable method of production. Many 3D printers use biodegradable or recyclable materials like PLA (polylactic acid), which is made from renewable resources such as corn starch. Additionally, 3D printing machines themselves are energy efficient, using only as much material as needed to create a product, reducing waste.
For someone like me who cares deeply about sustainability, it was a win-win. I could combine my CAD (Computer-Aided Design) background with 3D printing to create products that were not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly. And so, I incorporated this technology into my business to create personalised 3D-printed plaques, wedding decor, and other bespoke items.
What makes our 3D-printed products unique is the balance between functionality and beauty. We use innovative design techniques to ensure that each item is not only practical but also serves as a piece of art. Whether it's a wedding plaque or a customised gift, we focus on using high-quality, sustainable materials that align with our values.
3D printing has opened up endless possibilities for creativity in design. With a focus on sustainability and aesthetics, our business is proud to offer a range of bespoke, environmentally friendly products that stand out in both form and function.
